Military Human Resource (HR) Records
Your Military Human Resource (HR) Records consist of personal and professional information and data that the Navy maintains according to federal regulations (United States Code, Title 5 and Title 44).
Many different systems store this information, but for the individual Sailor the two most important records are the Official Military Personnel File and the Electronic Service Record. You should review both records routinely.
MyData (see below) provides a consolidated view of your HR data, along with the ability to report data discrepancies. MyData is an important resource that will help you maintain the accuracy and completeness of your Military HR Records.
MyData (BETA)
- Verify MyData annually, and at least 12 months prior to career milestones, including reenlistment, advancement/promotion, and orders negotiation.
- MyData contains the data previously displayed in your Electronic Training Jacket (ETJ).
- OMPF documents are organized into categories such as Performance; Professional History; Personal Information; Training, Education and Qualifications; Privileged and Adverse Information; and Separation and Retirement. Each category is assigned a Field Code you can use to sort OMPF documents when reviewing your record.
- Documents are submitted to OMPF by your command, servicing Transaction Service Center (TSC), or designated Navy Personnel Command representatives.
- Documents from your OMPF are the primary images viewed during Selection Board review, so it is very important that your record is accurate and complete.
- Verify your OMPF at least once a year. Always review documents six months prior to a Career Development Board and Selection Board to ensure your record is up to date.
- Periodically, usually at specific career milestones including reenlistment and separation/retirement, ESR information is printed and electronically submitted to OMPF.
- Verify your ESR every six months. If you discover errors or missing information, contact your chain of command and Command Pay/Personnel Administrator (CPPA).
- NOTE: Some NSIPS data is sent to ADE for processing and is made available for you to see in MNP (usually within 24 hours or less).
- Use the Records Review tool to inventory your OMPF and ESR. Be sure to review "Tips" for requesting data updates and corrections.
