Family Emergencies

Plan Ahead to Deal With Crises: From natural disasters like hurricanes and floods to manmade emergencies like regional instabilities abroad, Sailor injuries, or death, or domestic violence, each emergency requires specific preparation. Whether your Sailor is deployed or at home, there are resources and support services available to meet the needs of the whole Navy family.

Emergency Communication Services

Before contacting a deployed Sailor, please anticipate the Sailor's response and how difficult news may affect them.
  • The American Red Cross Hero Care Center is available 7 days a week, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, with three options for requesting assistance.
  • Your Ombudsman can help you reach your Sailor and also arrange for command support or Chaplain services at the time of notification.

Emergency Financial Need

Visit Navy and Marine Corps Relief Society (NMCRS) to learn about financial assistance and education for members of the Navy and Marine Corps, their eligible family members, widows, and survivors.

Emergency Preparedness

Take the "Emergency Preparedness Readiness Quiz" to learn how prepared you and your family are for an emergency. Then improve your readiness through "Ready Navy" resources such as Be Informed, Make a Plan, Build A Kit, Ready Navy Kids, and Ready Navy News.
